    What is VO2 max?

    VO2 max is the highest rate at which your body can take in, transport and use oxygen during intense exercise. It reflects several central and peripheral factors, including cardiac output, blood oxygen transport and the muscles’ ability to use oxygen.     How to do 4 × 4-minute cycling intervals

    1. Warm up for 15–20 minutes

      Ride easily, then add three progressive one-minute efforts with two minutes easy between. The final opener should approach interval power without creating fatigue.

      Use the first 30–45 seconds to settle at power rather than sprinting. A large anaerobic start can make the interval look strong while reducing aerobic time later.
