How it works
Select 5K, 10K, half marathon, marathon or enter a custom distance in kilometres or miles.
Use a target finish time to calculate the required pace, or enter a pace to estimate your finish time.
Use pace, speed and checkpoint times to turn the result into a practical training or race-day target.
Running pace explained
Running pace is the time required to cover a unit of distance. It is commonly shown as minutes per kilometre or minutes per mile. A lower pace number means a faster running speed.
Speed expresses the same performance as distance per unit of time. This calculator shows both formats so you can convert between pace, speed and finish time without doing the maths manually.
50 minutes ÷ 10 km = 5:00 min/km.
5:00 min/km × 10 km = 50:00.
10 km ÷ 0.833 hours = 12.0 km/h.
Race distances
Use a preset or enter any custom distance above.
| Distance | Kilometres | Miles |
|---|---|---|
| 5K | 5.000 km | 3.107 mi |
| 10K | 10.000 km | 6.214 mi |
| Half marathon | 21.0975 km | 13.109 mi |
| Marathon | 42.195 km | 26.219 mi |
Using your result
A calculated pace is a mathematical target rather than a guarantee of what you can sustain. Course profile, weather, surface, fatigue, fueling and pacing strategy can all affect real-world pace.
For a goal race, use the calculator to identify the average pace required and the split table to make that target easier to monitor. For training, enter a known pace to see the equivalent speed and projected time for a selected distance.
FAQ
Divide your total running time by the distance covered. For example, 50 minutes for 10 km equals 5:00 per kilometre.
Yes. Select Pace, enter your pace per kilometre or mile, and the calculator will estimate finish time for the chosen distance.
Yes. Custom distances can be entered in either unit, and the result always shows both min/km and min/mile.
No. It assumes an even average pace. Actual race pace can vary with terrain, conditions, fatigue and strategy.
Select the race distance and enter your target finish time. The calculator will show the required average pace and checkpoint splits.
